When hot weather moves in, don’t we all need some great ways to cool down? Dunkin’ Donuts® Cold Brew is one of the smoothest and richest tasting coffees, and there’s no grinding beans or dealing with filters. It’s available in-store at Walmart and is so easy to make!
We use cold brew to make fun iced drinks all summer long! Cold brew is great for everyday coffee needs, and is also an awesome entertaining idea for parties and barbecues. Make a coffee bar and let your guests create their own!
What is Cold Brew Coffee
Cold Brew Coffee is made by steeping coffee grounds in cold water for 12 hours. The result is an exceptionally smooth and sweet flavor without the acidity and bitterness commonly found in regularly brewed hot coffee.
Cold brew coffee is ideal for making any kind of chilled coffee drinks. Some of the things we love about cold brew:
- Cold brew has a smooth and balanced taste
- It’s incredibly simple to make cold brew coffee at home. There’s no special equipment, so no coffee filters or French press required!
- A batch of cold brew can be made ahead of time to last an entire week, taking some pressure off hectic morning schedules.
Cold brew also won’t melt ice cubes and dilute flavors like hot coffee will when making iced coffee.
How to Make Cold Brew Coffee
The cold brew process is amazingly simple. Open a box of Dunkin’ Donuts® Cold Brew and remove a pouch containing two coffee packs.
Place the packs in a 2-quart pitcher and add one quart (4 cups) of cold water. Cover the pitcher and place in the fridge for 8-12 hours to steep.
Then simply discard the coffee packs and add up to 4 cups more cold water according to your preferred strength. Voilà – your cold brew is ready!
It’s a good idea to get tall drinks glasses, straws and lots of ice cubes ready for when it comes time to serve. Mason jars make a great serving presentation too.
Tips for Making Cold Brew Coffee
- Use cold water to make cold brew and steep for a full 12 hours in the fridge to get the best flavor. Tap water works well and filtered water is great if available.
- For an undiluted iced coffee experience, make coffee ice cubes with the cold brew and use them in place of regular ice cubes.
- Use a pitcher with a lid if you have one, so you can easily cover it while steeping.
- Control the strength of your cold brew by adding more or less water before serving.
How to Make Hot Coffee from Cold Brew
Once you’ve prepared cold brew, it’s easy to make make it into hot coffee from it simply by heating in a saucepan or microwave. The heating is still faster than making drip coffee!

I love cold brew, especially during these hot summer days. I love cold brew’s naturally sweet and smooth flavor.
But what do you do when you’re looking out the kitchen window at two feet of snow? At times, I dream about my cold brew of summer. Then I thought, “Why not make cold brew and then just nuke it in the microwave”? Voila! It’s just as smooth and sweet AND it’s HOT!
Give it a try. You’ll be glad that you did.
Hi Russell, Thanks for your comment and glad you enjoyed!
Sometimes it’s like you’re reading my mind when you post! I’m a relatively new coffee-drinking, just started last year. I’m just feeling things out, trying things at home, and was thinking about trying to cold-brew to see how I liked it! This is just perfect, I’m going to give it a try!
